21/05/2009  |  José María Olazábal, from Augusta to Corvera Golf Club
He recently arrived from the US where he played in the Augusta Masters 2009, to carry out the final technical visit to inspect work on the golf course he designed at Corvera Golf & Country Club, Murcia. The outcome of the visit was very satisfactory, giving the green light for sowing to start.

José María Olazábal, winner of 2 Masters, 4 Ryder Cups, and with 22 victories on the European Circuit, made a private visit last Tuesday, 4 May, to the Corvera Golf & Country Club in the municipality of Murcia, to supervise work on the golf course designed by Olazábal, together with his company “IGD”. Corvera Golf Club will have the capacity to host high-level professional competitions on its course, which covers an area of 70 hectares and is over 6,700 metres long, and will be the winter headquarters for the European PGA.

From 9 am to noon, Olazábal walked the 18 holes of the course, which are now completely finished. This final technical visit was the last step before sowing begins on the course. He gave a few finishing touches to the driving range, putting and chipping greens, which are fully completed and will be the first facilities to open for play in June.

The Fuenterrabia player was very satisfied with the results of the work and the latest changes proposed on this visit included changing the position of some of the tees, bringing more trees into play, and some minor adjustments to the shape of the greens, especially the 18th, which received particularly close attention owing to its influence in the final outcome of the game.

Sowing of the course, which starts immediately, is due to be completed in May, and may therefore be ready to open towards the end of 2009.

José María Olazábal has recovered from a spondylitis that kept him out of high-level competition for the past two years, returning to compete at top level and in good form, as demonstrated by achieving 6th position in the Heritage Classic, a points tournament on the American PGA circuit, which took place in April.
